The only thing constant in the world of digital marketing is change.

The landscape is changing every day, week, month and year. As we head into a new year, we thought it would be helpful to focus on projected trends for next year.

#1: Bite-Sized Content

We are all spending more time on our phones and social media than we were even a year or two ago. That said, our engagement with specific content has decreased. Why is that?

Scientifically speaking, studies have shown that the attention span of the average adult is 8 seconds. If that is true, then of course we are engaging less because we only have about 8 seconds in our brain to engage before we move on.

We also think  the sharp increase in content available to us is creating a decline in engagement.

What does this mean for digital marketing in 2022? We recommend creating bite sized content for your audience. Short videos, Instagram Stories that disappear, reels, etc.

#2. Voice Search

Digital assistants continue to grow in popularity. Sadly, some households talk to Alexa, Siri, or Cortana more than they speak to family members!

The popularity of voice search both at home and on our phones has led to a significant shift in keywords for search engine optimization efforts. Think about how you speak to Alexa – this is much different than how you would type a query into Google, right? We recommend optimizing your website for digital assistants moving forward.

#3: Reviews

Online reviews can make or break your business’s ability to attract new customers or clients. While any company can talk up their products or services, other consumers can provide real, unbiased reviews. Having many reviews from verified sources can make your business stand out from the competition and start building trust before they even click on your website.

In addition – Google does include reviews as part of their algorithm! Why is that? Google wants people to stay on Google, so they pride themselves on providing solid results for your searches. If they have the option to show a 5 star rated company over a 3 star rated company, with all other ranking factors the same, they will.

Take reviews seriously in 2022 – ask your clients and partners to leave one on Google or another review platform!
