GDPR — The General Data Protection Regulation

As you have probably heard, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), a law passed in 2016, is now in effect.

What is the GDPR? It is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union. The goal is primarily to give control to citizens and residents over their personal data. This isn’t just for companies in the EU, everyone is effected!

Here is some additional information for your benefit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation

While most everyone reading this is likely working for or an owner of a business located in the US, we still think this is very important. Of course, it is crucial to be protected in case anyone from the EU visits your website. In addition, we believe this change will be required for US companies and websites in the coming months/years.

Our recommendation is to provide a notice of your data retention policies on your website.

Sound difficult? It’s not. Our developers can use a plugin on your site that allows a small pop-up to show in the footer of your website letting first time visitors know about your cookie and privacy policy. This work will take no more than hour!

As an FYI to you, when your privacy policy is updated, users will need to accept it again, however we don’t envision that happening often.

If you are interested in us doing this work for you, or if you have ANY questions or comments, do not hesitate to drop us an email or phone call.
