Earth Day: Branded Reusable Totes

As we celebrated Earth Day last week, our team spent some time thinking about how we could treat our earth a little bit better. Ideas such as reusable straws, turning off lights in our office and homes and removing paper towels from our kitchen were all discussed, and we made action plans for implementing new ideas into our routines.

The biggest action item for us was to reduce single use plastics in our lives. First step, invest in reusable bags! Disposable shopping bags can be found at almost every single store, from the grocery store to a retail store at the mall, they are hard to avoid.

What’s the big deal? Average Americans go through at least six plastic shopping bags every week (we think that sounds low!) and the data surrounding the environmental impact is overwhelming:

It is estimated that more than one million birds, turtles other sea animals die each year from ingesting plastic.
The cost to recycle plastic bags outweighs their value, so most recycling facilities will not take them. Instead of being recycled, they are thrown out with the rest of the trash and can take from 15 to 1,000 years to decompose.
Thanks to their light weight, plastic bags easily find their way out of landfills and can settle in trees, block storm drains, and clutter beaches.
Ireland was the first European country to impose a tax on plastic bags. The nation has decreased its plastic shopping bag use by 90% since 2002, cutting overall plastic bag use by 1.08 billion. Way to go Ireland!

If one person used a reusable bag over their lifetime, it would remove more than 22,000 plastic bags from the environment. Talk about making a difference!
